Re: utica 16 sterly
Yes sir; good looking gun. Looks like you need to clean the rib/barrel crevice out with sharp point awl then a brass brush. Sometimes I believe those haven't been cleaned since the guns were made.

Re: Single trigger question of this week
Are you sure that is not Ithaca's own single trigger? See H.E. Howland's Patent No. 1,818,852. The "factory" single trigger for early NID's was a Miller, but between the 1930-31 and the 1931-32 catalogues the text changes from "Single Selective Trigger $30.00" to "Ithaca Si...

Re: Closing a Double Gun
A Fox was probably McIntosch's favorite. He was a firm believer in easing the lever back. Do you remember Dez and 'Hunting with Dash'? He would snap close and his FIL would ease the lever back. Some guns I have, the lever will easily go all the way back to it's normal stop position, so I ease those ...

Re: What kind of bore solvent?
One daughter said she always knew, when coming in the house, if dad was cleaning guns...........Hoppes Howsomever, I have been experimenting with Ezzox lately, especially with lock work. After it dries, it still looks almost wet; rub your finger on it and you realize it is dry, yet retains lubricity...

Re: barrel length
Don't know how handy you are, but the stock could probably correctly be repaired instead of buying a new one. Always best to have the original if possible. Mike Orlen or a gunsmith near you could also jugchoke the left barrel to about improved cylinder; make a decent field gun out to 35 yds. I think...

Re: Fox A sixteen - new to me
OK, clue me in here. Those barrels don't meet at the muzzle. I have had Berettas that were uncut and didn't meet. Do Foxes always meet? Are Fox barrels EXACTLY cut on the inch mark? I have a couple of old Ithacas cut exactly on the 30" mark and the muzzles meet. My two Stevens 5100s; one is 27 ...

Re: New member pics and questions - AE?
If you plan on shooting it much, I would address what looks like some oil in the head of the stock where it meets the receiver. Here's how to remove the stock. http://www.foxcollectors.com/ah_fox/content/disassembly.html If you have done some tinkering with shotguns and choose to remove the stock, g...

Re: Inherited 2 fox shotguns, need help IDing
First, don't get hasty about getting things "fixed" by some schluk who thinks he is a gunsmith and end up losing a lot of value on the guns. No photos came through. Try again.

Re: Sterlingworth 12 gauge advice
Don't do any cleaning that would alter the original finish and patina and lose value on the gun. It is in pretty good condition. Made in 1926 I think. Buy a shotgun cleaning kit; about $15-20. Buy a product called Clennzoil. It can be used on the whole gun; wood included; most oils will damage wood....

That gun was built for the guy who forgets to move the safety upon shouldering. It's all I would see.

Re: 20 gauge Sterlingworth with straight stock
Max pressure for a 2 3/4" 12 is 11,500; 20 ga. 12,000 which is minor difference. Did you read on the Gibbs site. Their testing perameter is for 12 thru 28 ga. for .025 thickness.

Re: 20 gauge Sterlingworth with straight stock
.603 and .608 must be the muzzle measurements; not the bore. Bore should be between .615-.622. Don't just look at the drawing, READ! http://www.parkerguns.org/pages/faq/BarrelThickness.htm Notice, here it says .025 at 9". Most guns that have .025, it is found about the middle of barrel length; ...
