Polishing Case Hardening

The case hardening is fairly new on my Grade A but dull. I have been told to use Casey's Tru-Oil full strength or diluted and I read an article on the net suggesting fingernail polish to protect the finish. Any ideas on finish and polishing?

I have used Tru Oil diluted 20 to 1 with mineral spirits applied to the surface with a quality artist brush in the past with good results. The gun in question was treated almost 20 years ago and has not flaked or worn off. I have also used clear lacquer diluted 1 to 2 with lacquer thinner with excellent results. The key to using either is proper surface preparation. I use carburetor cleaner to degrease the surface before I apply the finish.

Nope you want it as thin as water. Forgot to say when using the Tru Oil you will get a much smoother application using two very thin coats.

I called Turbull today and they use Violin Varnish and alcohol. Also, it looks like you have to make your own varnish from one of the recipes on the net because i don't see any already made for sale??
