Re: Re-stocking to a straight English grip

The two sections of checkering appear to be done with diamonds at different angles and different spacings (LPI -lines per inch). That typically suggests it was done by a different "hand" as some stockmakers like to say. The cheek panel was probably checkered later and isn't original as oth...

Re: Fox Gold Medal - Pan Pacific Exposition

Thanks for posting those photos Bill. That was quite a display setup for Fox at the Expo. I will try to learn more about the Expo guns. My understanding is the disc with the male and female figures is the type of gold medal (gold plated bronze) that would have been awarded to Fox gun company and oth...

Re: Fox Gold Medal - Pan Pacific Exposition

Thanks for your replies. This has bugged me since I first read the McIntosh book years ago. I believe there are images of the paper certificate and ribbon that accompanied the Fox gold medal, but I've never seen any evidence of the medal itself...an important, but missing, piece of Fox history in my...

Fox Gold Medal - Pan Pacific Exposition

At the Rock Mountain SXS event last year Mr. Bill Jolliff offered to let me handle his spectacular Fox gun originally built for display at the 1915 Panama Pacific International Exposition. That was quite a thrill for me as a novice Fox collector. Thank you again Bill. Some Fox advertisements and lit...

Thanks for the photos MilRob. That's some spectacular grouse and woodcock cover you're hunting in. Very pretty gun too. Thanks.

Re: Foxes in South Dakota

Thanks for the photos Craig. Beautiful country out there, and nice birds. You're correct, we sure are blessed as Americans. Let's all stick together here and try to keep it that way.

Re: Maine

Sorry I was up north again...good woodcock numbers, but only a few grouse...will try to post a few more photos soon. Yes, that's an early Savage Sterly with Philly style safety button and lever. It happens to be 32in 12ga gun. Not a gun any of us would normally use for upland hunting, but I do like ...

Re: Maine 2.0

Thanks Stan & snakeeater. That pointer (Missy) is one of two I own from Hoyle Eaton in Booneville, Mississippi...a very nice gentleman, and the only handler/breeder to win the national bird dog championship four times. They have done well on wild birds up here and down south. They're very good, ...

Re: Why is the attendance at SxS events down?

Craig, as a new member that attended both events in PA this year, I'd say my first impressions/observations are mostly in line with what the more experienced members mentioned below. I think there are many people that want more of a "rendezvous" type experience where people gather to discu...

Maine 2.0

Ok...here are properly sized photos with a couple more thrown in to test this out. No, the float planes aren't mine...far from it...but they would be a great way to get around. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f9/foxpro1/IMG_0489_zps6muhxfl6.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f9/foxpro1/IMG_0471...

Re: Maine

Thanks Jim. I didn't buy any Foxes this time. I stopped in for the preview on Sunday, but didn't participate in the auction. I'm tempted to buy many of the Foxes I'm seeing, but I'm going to keep doing my homework and try to hold out for one that's just right.

Re: Maine

Thanks Jolly, normally I don't hunt the first week of October. The primary reason for this trip was to visit Julia's to see and learn about the Fox guns on display during the preview period, and for a newcomer like me it was a true educational experience and well worth the trip. My hunting camp is a...
