Foxes in South Dakota

Lucy and I just returned from a fantastic trip to South Dakota with member and good friend Daryl Corona. Fox got the game, plenty of wild pheasants!

We had 6 excellent shooters, 6 Labs and a GSP. It takes a bunch of great dogs to flush wild birds. Lots walking and hard work but it worth it to harvest Mr.RINGNECK in such a large and beautiful land. We are truly blessed as Americans.

Love those pics. Nothing more fun then a big nasty ringneck blasting out of the thick stuff and fighting for elevation, cackling at the top of his lungs. Looks like absolute type of hunting we all live for. Can I assume both guns were 12 gauge?

Good for you and your hunting partners - both human and canine.

As you know, we are currently getting a lot of rain here in upstate NY where you guys hunt ducks. Will this rain help enough to get water back in your marsh for tomorrow's opener? Sure hope so. Would hope some areas of your marsh would benefit enough to get in some good duck hunting.

If not, you sure took the edge off judging by your great pictures.

Side note: here in California on public land, the cackling a rooster makes when flushing has almost been completely breed out of them. The non cacklers are the only ones that survive!

We certainly had a great trip did'nt we Craig? Lucy did a remarkable job on that blind retrieve. Kudos to you for all your hard work in her training as it really shows. Don't forget to mention the great job that the Parkers did on those roosters on our "Parker" day. With out a doubt, our dogs were the stars of the show.

Vaturkey: The lower gun is Craig's CE 12, The upper gun is my Sterly 16ga. deluxe. Interesting thing I discovered while cleaning my guns at the end of the day was that the barrels of the 16ga. sterly deluxe snapped right on to the receiver of my 30" sterly 20ga. with a perfect fit, forend and all. I shot it on our last day there and it functioned perfectly. Gotta say though, the 30", 20ga. is about the perfect rooster gun with its F/F chokes. We brought a number of guns, Parker and Fox, and drew blood with all of them.
