Re: Off Face

Thanks Frank, it is barely off face, no wiggle with fore arm on. I agree with you, not enough to cause light hammer strikes. My friend is taking the gun to Matt Begely at Diamond Gun Works.

Re: Off Face

Yea, was talking to Jerry yesterday, he's less than a half hour from me, but just wasn't sure he could fix the off face issue. Going to have him look at the gun next week, but exploring other options

Off Face

Years ago l bought a very nice Utica SW 20 with 28" barrels. My best friends son likes Foxes, so I sold it to him as a high school graduation present. The gun was never shot a lot, and only with 7/8 oz game loads, but is now off Face and often the left barrel has a light primer stroke and won't...

Re: New Fox Owner

Thanks Researcher, good info to bookmark. I was given a very nice 20 ga Model B several years ago by a dear elderly cousin that I always thought of as an uncle. I am unlikely to ever shoot it again as I lent it to my veterinarian brother, and he likes shooting it,oh well,, it is still in the family....

Thanks all for the recommendations. Others also mentioned JJ Perodeau in OK. He answered a call immeadiately, and the gun is being shipped to him this week.

Double Trigger Gunsmith recommendation

Need some recommendations of gunsmiths versed in double trigger repair. Gun is not a Fox, but a mid 50's Beretta sidelock gun. Gun doubles shooting heavy loads when back trigger is pulled first. Cole's in Fla., declined to work on it, as it is an older gun--and they are the Beretta specialists. Any ...

Re: Gun smith in western ohio

What kind of problem/issue do you have that needs fixed? Perhaps there are other options out there.
I sent a Ugartechea 20 to a 'smith in Indiana with good results.

Re: Gun smith in western ohio

Try Matt Begley, Black Diamond Gun Works in Tipp City, Ohio.
The Stock Doctor, Dennis Smith, is in Oregon, as is another excellent stock guy, Mark Larson.
Give Matt a call, or go see him if you are out in that area. Hope he can help you out.

Re: Another bit of Savage-era Fox-Sterlingworth Trivia

# 266435, My Savage era SW 20 is marked as such also.
Havent shot it in a long while. Took it to the UP as a backup gun last year, but a friends little 20 Ithaca Flues broke down and I lent it to him to use there, and on to Montana where it made a good account of itself.

Re: chamber length

Thanks Dave, that's what I thought. Pulled it out of the back of the safe yesterday, and it got me thinking. It is a very light 12, with 28" cyl/Mod chokes on 4 wt barrels, the 4 plainly visible on both barrels. It weighs 6lbs 12 oz on a postage scale. Not enjoying recoil, I shoot light loads t...

What was the chamber length of the early "The Sterlingworth Co" pin guns, was it 2 5/8"?

Re: Looking for an A Grade 16 GA stock

Nice A grade. I have # 300640, a Philly gun from 1916 as I recall. I will second Tom's recommendation of Mark Larson. He has done work for me. He is quite talented, and the turn around time surprised me-very quick! He is also a SXS and 16 ga enthusiast. The Stock Doctor gets good reviews--Google him ...

Re: 2 triggers

The gun was probably designed for driven pheasnt hunting in Europe where your 1st shot is further out than your second, thus chokes were reversed.

Re: Fox-Lefever Challenge

Daryl, that's an awfully good bunch of shooters also. Jeff, yes , I had 2 great trips this year, and hope to do them both again. Hard to imagine the UP in mid December without snow, so kind of hard to plan that trip, all depends on the weather. Was supposed to go to South Dakota in mid January, but ...
