Judging from the location on my 30" Sterlingworth with factory beads, I'd say 14" behind the front bead on 26" barrels.

If you want to do it, a vertical belt sander works the best. Also watch your shaping on the toe, that's where most people encounter problems.

Remove the barrel assembly from the rest of the gun and hold it up vertically, by the lump (the part that rides the hinge pin), with your thumb and index finger. Turn the drill press table to the vertical position and clamp the fore end on so that the spindle is in correct alignment with the stripped hole.
