Re: Advice for a Vintage Shotgun Newbie

I've decided to purchase the gun and, please don't be mad, open the right barrel slightly to a modified choke. I decided to do this after finding out from the seller that the gun was altered before and not "untouched collector grade"....... Here's what I know about her and why I couldn't ...

Re: 2.5" 16ga. shells for Pheasants

I'm heading to SD tomorrow for 5 days, planning to shoot 12 ga CE Mod/Full with some reloads of nickel plated 5's 1 1/8oz at about 1250-1275fps. We will see how it goes but I'll bet if I'm on em they'll drop and if not they won't. I think practice all year on clays with the gun I'm going to shoot ma...

Re: My continuing education regarding chokes

Read in Schwing's book on M21's that WS1 choke patterns tended to fall apart past 20-25 yds. Never have patterned mine to see, but then I don't use it for anything much farther than that, put on a different barrel combination if I expect longer shots.

IMG_0706.JPG A limit of doves opening day with a 30" 16 ga Sterlingworth. Always look forward to opening day starting about February. Drizzle all day (remnants of Harvey here in TN) and I don't remember another opening day when it was actually chilly in over 45 years! Good friends, good shooti...

Thanks. Saw his name mentioned a few times on the Parker board. I'll get in touch with him.

What if barrels don't "ring"?

I suppose that means a rib is coming loose. Would that mean the gun is in a "don't shoot until you get it fixed" condition? Any recommendations on gunsmiths that can fix this?
Thanks

Enjoyed your story! Like you, she will always have the recollection of that special day, but I'd wager that through the years it will mean even more to you! That's the joy we get from sharing our love of hunting with those we love.

Re: Bore Gauge

Agree completely about the Stan Baker gauge. I have the interchangeable model with 3 probes. Readings are always repeatable so leads me to believe it is dead nuts accurate. I've never measured the length but know it is long enough to do 32" bbls by measuring from one end and then the other.

And it floats! http://i1276.photobucket.com/albums/y480/TommyGunsNo1/gun%20case%20%20%20sling_zpsy8tf05ug.jpg FoxintheHenHouse If I'm going to have to wade in or take a boat, I wouldn't consider not having my gun in a floating case regardless of whether it is a Superfox, Win 21 Duck or a Remington ...

Re: Early Fox SW 16 gauge with 30" tubes...sweet

Be interesting to chronograph the same load fired in a Fox with shorter chambers and longer chambers and see what the results are. That would be interesting! Seems like for valid results you would have to do the testing before and after chamber lengthening on the same barrel with the same ammo, don...

Re: Early Fox SW 16 gauge with 30" tubes...sweet

Just looked at the pictures on GI. That's a nice one for sure, SXS! I have a 16ga A that I got from a member here. 28" IC/M in about the same condition and weighs 5lb 12oz, min wall thickness .031/.032. 1 1/2" x 2 1/2"x 14. It's great to carry all day, fits me just perfect and choked ...

Re: Where to start?

I have done some business with Steve and have nothing but good things to say about him. I saw his listing for the "brown gun" and the way I took it was that the finish had turned brown from use or some neglect at some point, if cosmetic only and the barrels are sound it would probably not ...

Re: What did you add to your Fox Collection in 2016??

I bought Craig's 16 ga A to help him try to balance the books! That 16 ga is going out for some quail this weekend. Unfortunately in trying to help him, my books have gotten way out of balance on the positive side. Got a couple of really nice 12ga C grades. A 28" CE, #23xxx that weighs 6 lb 11o...

Does seeing a live fox mean its time to acquire something?

Out walking in the neighborhood and saw a fox stalking something. It took off when it saw us. We have several in the neighborhood and have spotted several kits with them from time to time. I told my wife I took it as an omen that its time to acquire a new shotgun.
Do you guys agree?
