Re: $50 flea market early Fox A Grade shotgun
Any comments? An okay purchase, good purchase, overpriced? Obviously, not a beauty queen.

$50 flea market early Fox A Grade shotgun
I mentioned this one in another thread. I paid $50 for this one at a flea market about 12 years ago. Safety is locked in place, a few years ago tried to disassemble it but couldn’t get the screw out even with Kroil.
One of the early A Grades which were the plain Jane types.

Re: What to do with this 20 gauge Fox Sterlingworth?
(snip) ..... Hunted hard and just shellac peeling off from hard use. They didn't put an oil finish on those Sterly's. Actually Sterlingworths of your vintage were finished with E I duPont's 'Duco" nitrocellulose lacquer with some stain added. Lacquer thinner might be better for cleanup of the ...

Re: What to do with this 20 gauge Fox Sterlingworth?
Orpington, What is your concern about Savage/Utica vs. Philly gun? As Researcher said that gun is all Philly components. Possibly a gun that was all ready serial numbered and in the white when Savage purchased Fox. Hard to say for sure. I would not rely on the Lightner published serial number chron...

As far as a new bead sight, which one replaces factory original? Perhaps a link would be appropriate. There are many sizes and styles available.

Re: Parker Trojan, Plus early A Grade Fox
Post some pictures of that mint condition Fox and we'll let you know how good a deal you got. The $50 A grade was probably an OK deal. Better late than never. This is the lesser condition of the pair of recessed pin Fox shotguns I purchased in 2014 for $1200 for the pair. Serial number 57792. Of co...

Re: What to do with this 20 gauge Fox Sterlingworth?
No one has said anything about valuation. Any guesses? What I had it for sale at on a few forums doesn’t really matter as it wasn’t for sale long and I didn’t have it for sale at a bargain price, and yet it’s hard to believe a 20 gauge Sterlingworth with only a bit of a challenge to the wood can’t ...

Re: What to do with this 20 gauge Fox Sterlingworth?
Where would you obtain the proper brass bead and how difficult are they to install? What affixes the old one to the barrel? Is it threaded?

Later “pin guns”
McIntosh writes in his book on page 113 that most of the “pin guns” he’s aware of shipped in the 56000 range or lower. He writes of the following exceptions: 57729 shipped July 19,1911 58657 shipped September 15, 1911 60026, unknown 60507 shipped August 9, 1912 60726 shipped July 22, 1912 61412 unkn...

Re: What to do with this 20 gauge Fox Sterlingworth?
With regards to this possibly being 1928 production and not shipping until 1933, was the 5 year lag time a consequence of the Great Depression?
