Parker Trojan, Plus early A Grade Fox

Post by orpington »

I like Fox doubles the best of all, to say the least. Nonetheless, if I can find a bargain with another similar make, so be it!

I created an account on the Parker Gun Collector's Association site just before the weekend, because the local auction house had a very well-used Parker Trojan dating from 1919 for sale, maybe 20-30% blue, no case colouring, no cracks in stock, a few dings in the left barrel, replacement recoil pad. For some reason, I cannot log in to that site. However, my question was to have been what is a gun like this worth these days, either as is, or parted out. Since I did not know the answer, I wanted to go low, and went as high as $170 (plus there would have been 6% sales tax and a 10% buyer's premium). It ended up going for either $260 or $270. So, if anyone is wondering the answer to a question such as mine, there it is! Or maybe not. Perhaps YOU think it is too high or too low.

And, what is the 'bare bones' minimum for a Sterlingworth? I may have that answer, too! I did purchase the 'early' A Grade (which is not like the later A Grade) Fox, well used, but not abused, serial number just under 3,000, at a flea market in May of 2012 for $50.

You got a hell of a buy in the Fox IMHO. The Parker probably went for @ half of what it was worth. Also IMHO

Yeah, I thought so, too! Just a heavily used, but not abused, early A Grade. It's all there, not monkeyed with, etc. Came from a guy walking around with two old shotguns, and I just had to see what he was offering. The other was an old Ithaca with a shattered stock, which I didn't buy. I didn't go more on that Trojan the other day, because I wasn't quite sure what it was worth. Gut instinct was that maybe I could get $400 or $500 for it, but maybe not. I didn't really want to be stuck with it as it is not something I collect, plus, in general, I like higher quality stuff. Having said that, a few weeks ago I picked up two recessed pin Sterlingworths for $1200, and what makes the first one look not so good is only the fact that the second one I got looks mint!!! NO WEAR at all anywhere, the only thing that makes it look not completely brand new is some fading of the case colours, but much of it still evident too! I don't think the LGS knew what they had, and they walked in the door there an hour before I found them. They were originally $695 and $575 and I worked a deal to get both. $1200, including tax.

Post some pictures of that mint condition Fox and we'll let you know how good a deal you got. The $50 A grade was probably an OK deal.

How do you post photographs?

By the way, what is a 100%, or nearly so, 12 gauge GH with Damascus barrels worth? I think it has ejectors as well. It dates from 1926, so by then I would surmise that Damascus barrels were special order. I think this firearm may actually be unfired. I am not a retail kind of guy, so my guess is this would retail for $2,500 to $3,000, so I would want to get it for $2,000 or less. My friend is asking $3,000 for it, and his dad got it decades ago.

Better late than never. This is the lesser condition of the pair of recessed pin Fox shotguns I purchased in 2014 for $1200 for the pair. Serial number 57792.

Of course, it has damage to the toe of the stock and a makeshift buttplate.
