Re: Fox 12g CE grouse gun

Well, the grouse seasons aren't what used be. The numbers are way down. I had to retire my Setter two years ago. She is now a 14 year old house queen, much loved. I've been hunting with out a dog. I sold the 12g C a few years ago , I don't know why. I now carry a nice 20g / 28" / CE. All is wel...

Re: Non matching stamped Barrel weights

The barrels may have started out with different wall thicknesses, but after striking, I'll bet they are the same now.

Re: Grouse out, now for Pheasants

Frank, Five grouse in PA is a major accomplishment these days. Even with a good dog and young legs. I'm sure you worked hard for them.
I ended up with only two. I didn't get to shoot enough to know if I was shooting poorly or not.
Have fun with the pheasant.

Re: Curved butt/recoil pad

Nice,
Just out of curiosity , why do you prefer the belt sander marks ? I've always spent extra time removing those marks ,even extending scratch marks that are on the stock to the pad.
I've found coal dirt and True Oil can make a pad look old and used very quickly.

Re: First and only shot fired this season

Ya I'm hunting without Bella now. She's a retired house queen. Something is missing ,it's just not the same. However, I do love to walk , a flush every now and then makes it interesting. There is still leaves on trees but they are falling fast. We have tons of grapes here . Thanks for the comments a...

Re: briley chokes in vintage shotgun

I was just getting into doubles in the mid 80s. I was spending an afternoon at Woodcock Hill. While talking about chokes, I asked Glenn what he thought about installing choke tubes in a vintage double. He turned around and said "It's like kissing the anti-Christ" . There's an opinion.

Re: Sterlingworth Barrel ding

Check the barrel wall thickness. If that dent doesn't show up on the inside, it has been honed. You need to know how much has been honed.

Re: Nice local find

The hang tag is not is the box. The long center divider is the only one left. I assume the wax paper is original.
Thanks

Re: A nice light Ithaca , off my bucket list

A two hand hold would definitely be necessary for most people. The gun is very awkward and hard to bring into position with hand. Most people couldn't hold it up for more than a few seconds.
