16 gauge trigger plate question
Are the trigger plates interchangeable between gauges or does 12,16 and 20 measure differently? I am looking to replace the one on my A grade.

Re: 16 gauge trigger plate question
12 is larger than 16/20 but in either case the trigger plate was fitted and contoured along with the frame and the chance of another plate fitting and looking proper is about nil. frank

Re: 16 gauge trigger plate question
Thank you for the response. It looks like mine has been tampered with. Could a smith fit one from another gun, is there any companies out there that would be able to fabricate the same piece ? Just asking so I know how I should proceed with this project. Thanks again for any info or advice.

It's hard to give good advice without seeing the damage. Post a pic or two of the tampering. Posting instructions are in the first sticky in the Fox Collectors Forum. frank

Re: 16 gauge trigger plate question
Wow it sure looks like someone had to work at bending that plate and gouging/drilling (?) a hole through it! I wonder what the plate and mechanism look like inside? Assuming no major internal damages and from what I can see ..... the plate can be straightened somewhat, that hole filled and microwelded, re-machined, and surfaces dressed to form and then faux colored. Anyway, that's what I'd do if it were my A grade 16 Fox but sorry I don't do work on commission. And because of doing my own Fox mechanical work I don't have any experience with good Fox 'smiths or even Sorcerer's apprentice type 'smiths. Possibly one or more of our members will step up with a gunsmith recommendation from personal experience.
Just for info here's what an unmolested AH Fox trigger plate looks like. In the second pic check out the thickness of about 1/4" where that hole shows behind the trigger blade slots. It took some force to bend the plate in your pics. frank

I you are in Va I'd recommend you reach out to this fellow:
Gunter Pfrommer
540-484-5555
Gunter is well versed in Foxes and I know of Fox members who use him. He used to be the head gunsmith at Ithaca Classic Doubles when they were made by Steve Lamboy in New York. PS. There is not much he can't do from what I've been told.

Re: 16 gauge trigger plate question
Wonder if at one time the OP"s gun had an after-market single trigger, such as an Infallible or an E.D. Fulford, both of which have a screw in that area, and at some point in time was restored to double triggers?
