Ansley H Fox safety operation

I just took possession of my first Fox,, Ansley H Fox made 1910 12 ga.
The gun has been entirely refinished and looks like has never been fired since being restored and became a safe queen.
Was stiff and difficult to open at first
On these guns,, is the safety in the ''fire'' position when pushed forward or pulled to the rear.
At first I could not get the hammers to fall (on safety caps) at all,, but opening/closing and working the safeties has loosened it up.
With the safety forward.. the right barrel hammer can fire
with the safety to the rear.. both triggers/hammers can fire

Fire is forward, Safe back. You should see the word “SAFE” when pulled back. Neither barrel should fire in SAFE position.
Sounds like you have some problems with your safe and you should have a qualified gunsmith check it.
Most Fox guns came from the factory with an automatic safe unless ordered otherwise.
With the Safe in the fire position, when you open the gun it should return to the SAFE position.

Sounds like it was restored cosmetically. But not operationally. It needs attention.

yep,,, definitely going to a trusted gunsmith
no ''safe'' marking on the tang,,, really seems to be assembled for the ''fire'' position to be rearward ..

Send us pictures of the safety button in both positions. We may answer some of your questions. No markings at all may indicate that it was a safetyless gun with a safety installed later than its manufacture date.

Perhaps this gun was originally built as a no safety gun, and has had an after-market safety added. Join the A.H. Fox Collectors Association, Inc. and get a card look-up for the gun and see how it originally left the factory.
