Spring DGJ Article by Silvers -Ithaca Super 10's
I would like to congratulate Frank for his fine article about Ithaca Super Ten NID shotguns in the new Spring DGJ. Very nice job and I am looking forward to part 2.

Re: Spring DGJ Article by Silvers -Ithaca Super 10's
Thank you Craig. The manuscript was pretty long with many pictures but these Ithaca Super 10's are fantastic long range double guns, although little known, and I wanted to do a thorough job. Part 2 includes comments by period writers, a comparison of key features against the Super-Fox, production number, info on use with lead and non-tox shot, and tech info to help evaluate originality if someone comes across one that's for sale. These Ithaca Super 10s are far more scarce than 12 gauge HE's.

Great job, Frank. They should have printed it in its entirety. Who gives an 'obese rodents posterior' about Markhor horns, anyway??
Looking forward to Part-2!!

Tool Man, I happen to love Markhor horns!! They make a great chili and are also very tasty when covered with hummus and tabbouleh and served on pita.

Ahh,Yes. "Marse Super-Ten" and I have dined on them on several occasions at the inimitable, Zagat rated, Café DuBwah, just a little to the north of Rt-80!!!

Can't wait to see this article. I've had a No. 2 Ithaca NID Super-Ten for over 29 years now, but it has never been the gun of choice over my old Super-Fox. I recently took pictures of three 10-gauge Western 2 7/8 inch Super-X shells --

Me, too, Dave. Hope our postman's mule didn't die on him. Haven't seen him in days.

Re: Spring DGJ Article by Silvers -Ithaca Super 10's
Thanks again men for the feedback; I'm happy you enjoyed the first part.
Just some personal thoughts for those who are (or want to get) into ducking with vintage SxS's. While most any gun/load can be used for decoyed birds you'll probably want to be set up for the long range shooting that inevitably comes with the sport. It's a challenge to get a heavy load of non-tox shot like bismuth or Nice into a 12-gauge 2-3/4" or even a 3-inch hull. That's with modern components. But the Short 10 has room to spare. Ithaca Super 10's are far more scarce than our 12 gauge Super-Foxes, but at present they aren't all that well known except by a few who covet them and thus if/when you see one for sale it will probably go for way less than an HE Grade Fox in comparable condition. I've only seen a few offered for sale over the years since I started looking. S-10's are often confused with the earlier Ithaca Flues Model 10-gauge, and are also mistaken for Ithaca's later Magnum model which are ponderous at least to me. Many S-10's are in good shape because they were put up when 10-gauge 2-7/8" shells were dropped by the ammo companies many moons ago. If interested in getting one, you'll be looking for an Ithaca NID 10-gauge with a s/n in the 400,000 range.
RST sells 10-gauge 2-7/8" factory loaded ammo but it is expensive. But really, all you'll need is a cheap MEC single stage 10 gauge reloading press and a one of the MEC spacers to adapt the 3-1/2" factory setup to 2-7/8". Hulls are easily cut down from new or used 10 gauge 3-1/2 inchers.
L to R
1. Brand-new Rem 3-1/2" hull as sold by Precision Reloading and probably others. Precision also sells new 10-gauge Federal 3-1/2" hulls as well as once-fired 10-gauge hulls.
2. Same hull cut down to 2-7/8" length with a simple cutter
3. One of my loaded Rem shells with a Rem plastic shotcup wad and a 6-point crimp
4. One of the loaded Rem 10-gauge "Express Magnum" shells that I got a a good price, with components scavenged and then cut to 2-7/8". This older Express hull uses the obsolete Rem 57 primer but I have some of those on hand.
