Calling all AH Fox Singles to the line !!

Post by MARSHFELLOW »

With less than a couple of weeks until the N.E. SxS shoot at Hausmann's Hidden Hollow I finally got this ol' SBT J grade to the traps this past Sunday. I've had the gun for 2-3 months but with the rotten cold & snow and then relentless rain I hadnt had a chance to see if it went bang. This is not the first SBT that I have owned but it quickly became my favorite.

It is a 32" barrel (actually 31.5) with about 36 pts of choke, full pistol grip with nice dimensions. I grabbed two boxes of RST "maxilite" 1oz loads and gave it whirl. Wowee! This gun produced 2 scores of 24 broken targets at the 16 yd line....no fuss, no muss. They should have both been 25s but for "operator error". I have shot thousands of rounds of 12ga shells on the trapline and never did I have so much fun as with that ol' Fox and those RST shells. I'm used to getting punched by the "hot" Nitro 27 loads...these maxilites are sooo pleasant to shoot while busting the targets with authority. I will be buying many more cases of RST 1 oz. shells. The trigger on the gun breaks crisply and it seemed to give me a "margin of error" as I had a couple of nice breaks when I really didnt think I was where I shoulda been!

Hopefully we will get a A.H. Fox Trap squad together for some friendly "gun maker's competition" at Hausmann's....I know some of my fellow AHFCA members have some of these guns stashed away. I suspect we could put a hurtin on the Parker, LC, Ithaca challengers.

If some of you boys have never been to Hausmann's try to make it to this shoot. It is a special venue with great targets ( including our own Bo-Whoop), lots of vendors, great food & most of all really nice people. Stop by and say hello....if I'm not at my vendor table, I'm out shooting.

Jolly, I'll have the Heinies on hand....with a glass.

I'll second everything Tom wrote about the RST's, the Northeast SXS and Hausmann's Hidden Hollow, and his super J Grade, I had an opportunity to see and handle his J SBT while in Syracuse last month, and she is one cool piece. I'll have my J grade straight grip with me at the NE shoot. I've seen her turn regular clay targets to "diesel smoke" and I imagine TJ's does too. Tom, if I can find it locally I'll have some Utica Club in the cooler for the evening events. Silvers

Marshfellow/Tom,

"Jolly, I'll have the Heinies on hand....with a glass."

Ah, you sure know how to do it right. And as usual, I'm guessing those will be cold Hienie's. And some Utica Club to boot? Can't wait.

Yes of course George... Ithaca, Baker and Lefever SBT's too. The only reason I mentioned Parker and LC Smith is their groups always have a good presence there at Hidden Hollow. Like Tom, I was thinking "squad".

TJ and Jolly, back to the days of my youth. Hummm... . a toss up.... UC or Genesee? Both from the old gun making country up north. :) Silvers

Unfortunately, Ernie does not have a single barrel event on the program as he has had in the past. Maybe we could create an "Event" for future years for single trap guns similar to the Bo Whoop, even on the Bo Whoop field. If I am pushed, I will bring my Fox single to the Northeast. At the very least, we could have pictures of a complete five man squad of Fox single shooters to post on this and other sites.

If someone has a SBT at the HH shoot I would love to shoot a few targets with it, I have never shot a SBT. Craig

Craig, you are welcome to shoot my J grade any time.

On shooting the SBT's while at the NE SxS... since a SBT event is apparently not offered this year, one possibility is to have the SBT shooters compete at the Bo-Whoop station by shooting just one of the targets (the longer one). Just an idea FWIW. Frank

You guys musta had more money than me in days gone by. All I could afford back then was Dixie, Jax, or Milwaukee's Best. Only "heinies" I was interested in were the ones I was chasing. If I had a REALLY hot date I'd scrounge enough dough for a bottle of Boone's Farm strawberry wine.

Oh for the simpler days.

Craig, you're most welcome to shoot mine as well. I was hoping perhaps we could just throw a little "impromtu" trap deal together....if it's not the thing to do than we go to plan B. Whatever it is it should be some fun.

MC, Heinies are just for these "special" occasions....gotta shoot the lock off a couple times of year.

A sub event on the Bo Whoop field is exactly what I had in mind. Maybe the entry fee could be adjusted to reflect the award offered.

That's what I was thinking. More of a special "second" event at the Bo Whoop field, with its own entry fee for any VINTAGE AMERICAN SBT, and for its own own purse. By VINTAGE AMERICAN I mean Fox, LC Smith, Ithaca, Lefever, Baker, Parker. Did I miss any? NO modern Perazzis, Ljutics, etc. NO double trap guns. The double traps can shoot the regular Bo-Whoop for its trophy recognition and purse as in the past.

The SBT's would just shoot 5 (or 10) of the longer target for score and a separate SBT purse.

I am respectfully submitting this suggestion - for the BD's to discuss and decide for the AHFCA, if that can be done for this year? Frank
