Frankly, I don't see the big need to remove pits from bores of vintage guns unless you are having some definitive problems. Vintage gun owners/collectors are quick to poo-poo refinishing stocks and metal, yet everyone is quick to hone out pitting. I've shot one gun for years that has moderate pittin...

That's an amazing amount of variation in not only quality, but in the basic subject orientation and type of dog. It's pretty obvious that there was either little or no standard drawing or a constantly changing one that the engravers used. Just from the large variation, it looks to me like no standar...

Dave,
Just curious, but what, if any, trademark does Tony G own? If he has no trademark ownership, then what's to stop anyone from using the A.H. Fox label on their replica of the Fox guns? Surely, all the patents have expired?

Unofficial beverage of AH Fox shooters?

Surely this would have to be the 'unofficial' beverage of this org?

One issue with cutting the petals off the wad is leading of the bore. Why make it harder to clean your gun? Wads are about the cheapest componet out there. A spreader wad has real testing behind it. Homemade spreaders will require testing and likely a lot of trial & error to get the same perform...

Sorry Frank, mine's a fake. 'Just done 'in the style of an X'. It's longer than a standard (shorter) AE but shorter than the late high grades by about an inch or so as near as I can tell in pictures from Mac's book.

Custom stocked AE

I know I posted this in the general forum and over on the doublegunshop bbs, but I couldn't resist the opportunity to post on the new "Custom Fox". Besides, I wanted to get my posts in before you all get spoiled by Doug's guns. It's not all that 'custom' except for the new stockwork...

Wow! Framed by two things as beautiful as that. The composition of the picture is spectacular. The stark contrast really makes that picture balanced.

Nice find Mikey.

How about a section for pictures on custom Fox guns? There are more and more Fox guns that have been modified in one way or another.

It's near impossible to tell if the finish is original from just your discription. But rough, shiney finish is a give away for a quick and dirty refinish. It's pretty common to see a gun this old with a refinish, either well done or not so well done, and some very old refinishes. You may be able to ...

The forend tip of this type is shown in McIntosh's book on an X grade. I don't have his book with me as I'm in Hawaii at the moment. But, it's also shown on one of the X grade guns in the pics on the main page of this site. My stockmaker put a radius at the bottom of the V, I assume for ease of inle...

Seems to me to a 'apples vs. oranges' debate. On one hand, the CSM route is a full service, built to spec, full lifetime warranty, 'you point, we build', purchase with all the 'best gun' kinda perks. Basically, you're treated like you're spending a lot of money....cause you are. It's available to an...

Another Fox returned to service

:D I bought this AE 12g 4-5 yrs ago with a cracked restock and deactivated ejectors. It's been sitting around waiting for work. I finally had it restocked and freshened finishes on the reciever and triggerguard. The dimensions are 1 1/2 x 2 3/8 x 14 1/2, 3" pitch with ever so slight cast off. C...
