I was just offered a 16g with 32" bbls.
It's a 1934 gun. Seller said it was it very good, all original shape, with lots of finish. They all say this, though.
Also said it was an extractor gun.
What kind of $ premium would you place on the 32" bbls?
Thanks

Re: Problems Getting Into DoubleGunShop.com Forum
Anyone know what's really going on over there? This seems like too long for a server crash.
Did something else collapse?

Speaking of 20g Fox Skeet & Upland Games...
Who got the one that went off today at The Cobbs? Anyone here? Looked pretty minty. Wonder how many are around in that kind of condition. Lot #340: Fox Sterlingworth 20 GA Shotgun, by Savage Arms Corp, double triggers, 28" barrels, straight grip stock, serial #264896. http://www.hunt101.com/dat...

Forend irons on Sterlies - case hardened or blued...
On the guns in the pics above, all the forend irons are case hardened. But on this Sterlie, the forend iron is blued: http://foxcollectors.com/sw%20grade.htm Why is there this difference? Did Fox blue the forend irons on Sterlies with ejectors and case harden the ones on non-ejector guns? Is it a ti...

Huh?
I've seen a handful of SPs and SPE. I swear none of them had SP, SPE, or the gun's gauge engraved anywhere on them. Did I just miss it? Or was this something Savage/Fox did at one time? And weren't SPs/SPEs introduced in the mid-to-late 1930s? http://www.foxcollectors.com/spe%20skeet%20upland.htm OWD

Beautiful gun...
Now that's condition.
Is the trigger blued or color-case hardened?
How are double triggers on higher-grade Foxes usually finished?
Thanks

I appreciate the info.
What's fair market price on that gun? Do Sterlingworth Skeet & Upland Games command a hefty premium? They're kind of rare, aren't they?
Thanks again.
Keep on rocking.

Thanks

Interesting...
Sounds like they're a bit slippery. I wondered if someone stuck that gun at that auction because it had problems and they were trying to sneak it onto unsuspecting buyers. Last spring they had a 16g Fox CHE that was very messed up - mismatched bbls, refinished, etc. They said nothing about it and it...

That explains it...
I wondered why it went so cheap. It looks like the redo was well done, though.
Did you talk to them about it? Did they represent it as refinished?
I've dealt with them before and they were pretty ignorant (or not very forthcoming) about condition.
Thanks

16g SP -- $2999 too much???
Came across a 16g SP the other day. Its looks all original, except for a white-line pad. 28", DTs, PG, Splinter Forend, 85% wood & blue finish. What's a gun like this worth? Is $2999 way too much? It seemed hight to me, but I'm not a crazed Fox collector. Any idea how many SPs Fox made? For...

Did anyone make it up to the auction in Maine for the the Fox CE 16g?
Anyone know the story on it?

I think everyone here should take a long, long look at their Sterlingworths and report back. We're sure to find out something interesting. My friend checked the bbls several times with an extremely precise bore mic. If there was a problem, I'm sure he would have sniffed it out. It is odd that the bu...
