top tang screw

i went to remove the stock from my fox for the first time and was following the instructions on the home page we tried to remove the top tang screw and it turns freely but is not backing out to remove it any members have an idea? thanks

the barrels arn't marked in any way with the size of the chambers. from what i have gathered on this forum a lot of folks use 2 1/2" shells for less pressure. i just dont want to destroy my greatgrandfathers shotgun!

i have a 20 ga sp fox think it was made in early 40's was wandering how important it is that you use 2 1/2 shells instead of 2 3/4 thanks
