A Little 4E Love!

I finally took delivery via the importer of a 100% original untouched Ithaca 4E SBT Knick with 34" bbl I purchased out of Georgia back in early September. I decided today to pull out both my restored 1927 NID4E 2 bbl 12ga set and the 1957 4E Knick and give the two of them alot of TLC (good deep cleaning, lubing and admiring). After cleaning and readying to put them away I decided to lay them alongside each other and take a few photos before placing them back in their cases until next use or next time I just want to look at, handle or drool on them.

Chris Dawes made the stock on the NID several years before I acquired the gun but the wood on the two forends is still original and untouched. The metal on the gun was refinished by Chris after I purchased the gun a couple years ago.

The gun was ordered according to the letter as 24" bbls choked 0/0(cyl/cyl) with a spare set of 30" bbls choked 4/4(f/f) but at some point the previous(original?) owner had the 30" bbls shortened to 28" and they retain about 3/4" of choke with a 0004" & 0005" constriction. They work very well with a 1oz load of 1200 fps Bismuth over the decoys out to about 30 yards.

Beautiful wood on both guns! The SBT has wonderful wood. In my opinion gun for gun, grade for grade Ithaca had the best wood! Chris’ restocking of the double is fantastic! Thanks for great pics!!!
