Please be patient as I learn. I just inherited my very first, belonging to my grandfather. I'm looking to verify information found online, thanks in advance. As near as I can tell it is a Sterlingworth 12 gauge with 30 inch barrels, bearing the serial 120264. That appears to be made in 1929, but I've only seen that on one website (doublegunshop.com). Since it had not fired in decades, an experienced friend inspected and fired it. Then this novice proceed to miss every clay with a box of shells. Lots to learn!

Jrhill63,
Congrats on inheriting your grandfather’s Sterlingworth! That is a special gun to have. The only way to know for certain what year your gun was manufactured is by ordering a letter from Cody Museum where the A.H. Fox/Savage records now reside. The on line information you referenced has been shown to be inaccurate. Sometimes the factory letter from Cody will tell you the DOM, original barrel length, chokes, stock dimensions, etc. However sometimes the info is spotty especially for Sterlingworths which were mainly made for stock guns.

If you get a chance post some pics of the gun and any history you have on your grandfather’s use and hunting with the gun. Very cool that you have the gun and welcome aboard the A.H. Fox obsession!!

Thanks Foxnut! I'll set out to make the request of the Cody Museum soon. In the meantime I have been doing light cleaning and discovered a problem: the gun will not close. The breaking lever is stuck on the right and the trigger lock also seems to be frozen. Is there a simple solution? Or should I seek a gunsmith?
