Nash Buckingham 20 gauge Burt Becker gun

Post by Cmckemie »

Everyone is familiar with Bo Whoop, but Nash Buckingham had a 20 gauge Fox Becker gun. It was in photograph from 1933 quail hunt.
Does anyone know any details about the gun ? Who might own it now? Thanks.

I'm pretty sure that it is a 12-gauge.

GBE book “Best of Nash Buckingham” says it is a 20 gauge.

All the errors in GBE's research and writing I've found in that book, I wouldn't give that any credence.

I have read from other sources that at one time he owned a Becker 20 gauge Super Magnum. I wondered if it might have been 2 barrel set. I am not sure Fox records show Becker made guns. Does anyone know about that? Thanks

Nash ordered a 20-gauge, 30-inch barrel, Super-Fox with C-Grade engraving and stock for his friend Hal Howard. However, it is built on the regular 20-gauge frame as it had a requested weight of "Not over 7." Nash also ordered it with a second set of 28-inch barrels, both improved cylinder. The Hal Howard gun 202651 was written up by George Banks Ready in The Double Gun Journal, Volume Seven, Issue 4, pages 21 to 26. The only real 20-gauge HE-Grade Super-Fox with C engraving 202620 was recently written up by Craig Larter.

I believe my article about 202620 will be published in the Summer DGJ. I really enjoyed being a facilitator in the purchase of this fine and rare gun. Craig

Thanks for the info. Just purchased first 72 issues of DGJ on ebay. Will find that article on Hal Howard gun. I knew Hal Howard’s son bought the original Bo Whoop at auction, then donated it to DU.

Look in the the "Double Gun Journal Index" section for the list of all the Fox articles contained in the Double Gun Journal over the years. They are all listed there for quick reference.

I found more info. His other Becker gun was a 12g straight grip 26” gun choked IC/IC and weighed about 7 lbs. He sold it or traded it at some point to someone in Memphis. His 20 gauge quail gun was Model 21 built in 1933 , part of a 2 barrel set.

How does the 26" gun you mention relate to the quail gun sold by our Pennsylvania Fox guru several years ago? What is the serial number of the 20 gauge Model 21? Let's add to the research information.

As I recall the story was that was a gun Burt built for himself and then never used.

My guess for Nash's Quail gun was one of my May 2014 Cards of the Month.
