Can some one tell me if the fore end iron on an early A grade was typically blued or case colored.

It appears to vary from time to time. It appears that on early guns the forearm irons were case colored, then there was a period they were blued by some method, then later guns were again case colored.

So do you think about why they would change their process or is it happenstance dictated by economics or desire to try a different approach or innovation or....?
