Thanks for the additional info for my tables of observed Sterlingworths. My Wife, English Setter and I went to Miller Ranch for some Pheasant hunting for Valentines Day!!
Most of my Father's guns had blood pitting out towards the muzzle from whacking Pheasant's heads over the gun barrel!! Pressure is pretty low by the time the charge gets up the bore that far.

Pat, Hold that gun up to the light and very carefully turn it so that you can see if light shows between the end of the barrels and the standing breech. You don't want to see any. You will notice a slight gap between the barrel flats and the water table, that is normal. Next, remove the fore end. Grab the barrels firmly at the muzzle end and give the gun a shake. If it is loose, you will feel it. I'm mentioning this because those marks on the hinge pin look almost like a quickie repair to put the gun back on face. I could be wrong but it looks kind of hinkey to me. Fred

Gentlemen, thanks once again...tomorrow the SW gets a good once over now that I know exactly what to look for. Is there a "checklist" of sorts that us NOVICE Fox'ers can use to give a prospective family member a good going-over? I know that I will now take ALL the advice given and store in my "brain-housing group" for future references.
I have to say that, after reading through the pages and looking at photos of hunts and guns I am totally stuck on Fox's...and this SW may be my first. I'll keep everyone posted and again THANKS...
oh, and yes - I am from the East...I'm from the Eastern Shore of Maryland, but live in Virginia now. I still go home to hunt, but I've started hunting around here, western MD and in PA...LIFE IS GOOD!
Semper Fidelis,
Pat
