Looking for info on a Utica NY fox....another ? Post 46
I've never taken the double barrel plunge.
I sure would have liked to more than once but the stars never quite aligned for me to do that.
Which brings me here seeking some info/ knowledge on one I'm looking at.
I know pictures would have been helpful and I could probably get some if needed.
The gun has a beaver tail fore end.
Single trigger with selector....I think.
Ya I know lots of help.
It is not engraved at all.
Receiver is not case colored.
The barrel marking are something I'm very curious about.
They are AH Fox special 20 gauge and the savage Utica NY. The stock and for end on this gun are extrodinary.
I am a wood junkie.
Anything I've mentioned that may help ?
If I recall correctly the serial is in the low 200,000 range.
Thanks and Regards
Paul

The trigger and selector looks the same.
It definitely only had the ah fox special 20 gauge in one address line.
I don't think I remember seeing any checkering either.
I'll get some pictures.
I appreciate the help wish I could have been more helpful also.

Sounds like the FOX SPECIAL SKEET GUN of 1934 --
The next year they added the scroll engraving and renamed it the SP-/SPE-Grade Skeet & Upland Game Gun --

Lack of checkering really throws me unless it was restocked.Weatherby wrote:The trigger and selector looks the same.

I hope you can tell/ help me tomorrow.
I will pick it up then.
I do own my first double anyway.
Very happy about that.
Even more if it is an actual SP.
The barrels are 26 or 26 1/4

I think if you ordered a gun and requested that it not be checkered you would get a gun so built.Too bad the factory letter situation is in such sad shape. Not a whole lot of them made,I would take it checkered or not .Congratulations on what might be a very nice find.

Re: New guy....looking for info on a Utica NY fox....picture
From what I can see the wood has some nice mineral streaking, but the stock and forend look to have been replaced post-factory which puts this Fox into the "shooter" category and generally of lower interest/value to collectors who demand originality. Same with clays shooters and hunters who want something that's well configured for their sport. More and better pics to include the sides/bottom of the frame and serial number will help ID how it was originally made by the Fox/Utica factory.

Weatherby: Before you start posting pictures of the serial number--not a good idea--join the Fox Collectors Club and you're able to order a free copy of the production card and it will give all the information you need about your gun. The cost to join for the year is worth the information on the card, your gun may have come from the factory with that special stock and this would increase the value of your gun greatly. Good Luck, I hope it was a very Special Fox!

Thank you Ralph.
I appreciate the information.
I won't post the serial #.
A few of the fit if it helps.
I live close to Savage and my gun pusher said the guy who brought it his father worked for Savage.

Agree with joining the Fox association and then getting an order card on the gun. Is the serial number posted on the inside of the forearm. Would think it would be if factory wood.
