Is your gun club, reloading supplier, or gun shop open for b

Post by fox-admin »

Here in western NY around the Rochester region the gun clubs are open, some have expanded days open. My home club Rochester Brooks is open 5 days versus our normal 3 days per week. We have the card system for clays and they have been open 1 day per week to reload cards (the cashier is only taking CC's through a window. Shooter are going out in small groups and practicing social distancing. Most wear gloves and hand sanitizers. My supplier of reloading components is taking orders but you need to call in your order and schedule a pick up time with a drive through loading system. Turnbulls is closed, sole proprietors are open like Brian Dudley and Dan May. What is your situation?? Can't wait for turkey to open May 1st.

Virtually everything around here is closed so far as shooting venues. Prince Georges Shooting Center near NASA Goddard in Greenbelt MD is closed, as is Bull Run Center in Manassas VA - both under State edicts. Our local Izaak Walton League shut down last week, no one allowed access to the property under the MD edict also. The private facility Prospect Hall near Charlestown WVa, a great place to shoot, has voluntarily shut down to comply with the State edict. Don't know about smaller reloading supply places; Dick's Sporting Goods here in No VA has stopped selling guns & ammo altogether, and I suspect that the nearby Cabela's/Bass Pros in Chantilly VA and near BWI Marshall Airport in MD are doing business by internet pre-pay and store curbside pickup only. Lots of masks and gloves everywhere here; really getting spooky. Kevin

Mine's closed but of course keyed members can shoot any time they like. Once a week or so someone opens the club house for a few hours so members can buy tokens. Indoor ranges I'm sure are closed but I haven't checked.

Social distancing shouldn't be a problem on our 665 acre Izaak Walton League farm, but it is closed to all, even for hiking and small projects.

Here in PA all non essential businesses are closed by mandate and that includes golf courses, trap, skeet and sporting clays clubs, etc that normally accept walk in public business and even though members pay dues. One nearby club with rifle/pistol outdoor ranges is open for do it yourself casual shooting except for clubhouse entry but that place has a gate to bar the public and with member only access by swipe card. Gun shops may be open "on appointment" and presumably to single customers at a time. On a side note, our state-run liquor stores have also been closed for some 3 weeks now and just on Friday I called an on-line supplier out in the upper Midwest for a favorite spirit. The lady there must have seen my area code on her caller ID and she said "oh I see you're in PA, I think everyone in PA has called us to order". She also said they had plenty of that spirit on hand but shipping may take up to 10 days because their shipping dept is overloaded. Yep I know I can drive over the state line to NY where I understand liquor stores are open but that's a 90 mile or so round trip and then I'm in public in the store.

It is what it is.

Here in CT things are still pretty much open, including package stores and private shooting/hunting clubs. My home club has suspended our weekly dinner social and our monthly member meeting until further notice, but the club house is still open and the pond has been freshly stocked with trout for fishing. At my buddies club, which has great clays options, I have shot several times over the last couple of weeks with him and other members of his club. As we all know most folks who enjoy the shotgun sports are responsible adults, take this virus stuff seriously, and act accordingly. I feel much safer going to the range to break some clays then I do going to the grocery store these days. As Frank said, it is what it is.

Here is MS the virus is being taken seriously. A few miles away is a public 33,000 acre reservoir that is now totally closed. Lots of fishing, boating, camping, etc are normally happening now but no longer. Guess that 33,000 acres is not big enough for "social distancing"?

The two gun clubs I am a member of, one is open to the public but with paying members and anytime open access for members. For the last two weeks this club has been closed to the public but open for members. The member only access ended this past Friday at 5 PM. Club is now totally closed.

The second club is a member only club (rifle/pistol) and has a card scan access at the gate. Thankfully this club is still open.

But, today is Palm Sunday. Because he lives I can face tomorrow.

Everything in Michigan is closed. Even if the shooters observed the appropriate "social distancing" the employees would still have to work in the club house, and handle the cash. Pretty darn depressing.

The shop I use is open but only 1 person at a time is allowed in the shop wearing a face mask, it's open 10 to 5 weekdays only. Shop is in a rural location and is a 1 man operation.

Forest City Gun Club is open (thank God) and our local gun shop is open. Even better, a crummy Ithaca I had on consignment sold there.

Bay Gall Sporting Clays is not officially closed, but is having very few people coming to shoot right now. It went to the card system last summer, and many members have purchased their own personal card with a number of prepaid targets loaded on the card. Owners are keeping the traps loaded with targets, so members with a card can come and shoot all alone if they want to.

We're busy planting corn so I haven't had much chance to shoot anyway. Social distancing isn't much of a problem for us. We may be the only person within several miles, and we're shut up in a tractor cab.

Rochester Brooks is still open for shooting but the clubhouse is closed. They have a window open on Wednesdays to purchase targets on your card. Last Wednesday they sold $18,000. worth of targets.
