PAD FOR 1935 AE 12 GA
In your opinions, what is the most appropriate pad for this gun that is available today in a reproduction pad?
I've got the solid red Noshoc on a L.C. Smith 20 and a SW 20 and am partial to it even though it does not do much in absorbing recoil. I'm just looking to lengthen the gun.
Thanks.

I think the Noshoc is great from the good period look perspective. Hawkins Heart Pad certainly works as well. Jostam Hy-gun works also, but as far as I know they aren't being made anymore, but seem to be pretty easy to find with some looking. The Noshoc and Hawkins Heart replica pads are out there at I believe at Brownells or CSMC. PS. Some folks like the Silvers, but I think the extra large plugs are sorta ugly.

I am partial to Hawkins "heart" shaped pad also. Jim

Re: PAD FOR 1935 AE 12 GA
The problem with the available Hawkins repro heart-shaped openings pad is that it is the huge 15 hearts size and will only barely work on a large-size stock, like my big 2-frame Parker Bros.
Probably best suited to an Ithaca NID Magnum-10!!

I would go with an original Hawkins pad, not a repro.

Re: PAD FOR 1935 AE 12 GA
Though the gun is at least a decade older than the No-Shoc pad, I've had this NOS pad I got from Clarence Bowman at a Vintage Cup on my favorite hunting 20-gauge for a dozen years now.
Still have a couple of mediums --
Need to buy something to put them on. Maybe a 20-gauge Skeet & Upland Game Gun.

Thanks for all of the replies. Does anyone have a NOS Noshoc for sale that will fit a 12? The repros are very hard.

Dave, I was not familiar with the No-Shoc pad. It looks similiar to the original Silvers pad. It looks good on your gun.

Re: PAD FOR 1935 AE 12 GA
The Noshoc is the commercial version of the solid Winchester pad.
Some other Silvers-like pads available over the years were the Goodrich --
The Grieb --
The Perkins --
and the JOSTAM Air Cushion --
I've seen Fox production cards that specified the Perkins Pad, and years ago down at The Great Southern Weapons Fair at Richmond I looked at an FE-Grade which had a JOSTAM Air Cushion. You could see the JOSTAM logo through the leather facing.

In that era, nearly any of the vintage recoil pads commonly seen would be suitable. It really comes down to a matter of what you prefer.
Dave,
That type of noshoc box is not one that I have seen before. I have some of the yellow ones.

Re: PAD FOR 1935 AE 12 GA
Went to my shop to put on a NoShoc and found a Hawkins that had been taken off a Parker I had. It was already close to fitting and one screw hole was usable so I only had to put in one new hole and shape the pad. The 13 7/8" length was not long enough for me so now it is 14 1/2 inches and I believe I will be able to shoot it better. The slip on leather pad just did not work for me, and I did not have to alter the stock for the new pad. Thanks for the replies.
