Overfiled hammer/sear engagment weld-up

Post by SXS ohio »

I have bought a SW that the sear engagement (left hammer) only cocks the hammer about 1/2 that normal amount and is too week to fire the round. I took it apart and found the sear engagement spec is way off. The hammer side of the sear looks filed down and will need welded up and refiled. Question is...what type of weld is recommended for sear repair of the hammer side (if any)?? This is normally a hard surface. ...thanks all, SXS Ohio

Apparently my reply of Thursday Jan 31 wasn't of any value and therefore I've deleted it.

frank
i think that is how the coffee table was invented

Frank- since you know this stuff better than I do - why wouldn't TIG welding work and fitting and to bring it back to orignal
I had that done on a hammer gun sear (percussion) and it worked fine - I may have just been lucky

i do agree that in this case, the availability of an unaltered replacement part makes that a better, simpler and cheaper fix
