Ithaca Super 10
After sending back several of these that, in spite of the seller's claims that they were unaltered - actually were
I finally found an Ithaca Super 10 with correct chokes and chambers - a field grade 2 7/8 32" 10 bore - originally shipped 8/12/1926 according to Walter Snyder
this is a classic waterfowl gun I have wanted for a while
it does has some wood issues and will end up with new wood after this season, but has been made shoot-able for now-
I got it out for a rainy day hunt yesterday and at least a few ducks gave it and me a chance - and gave Macallan a swim
a couple still life shots from a dryer day

What a great picture of Mac, reeds, one of my favorite ducks, and the big Mag 10! We still have a week to go before our "real" duck season opens here on the Chesapeake - chomping at the bit!! Kevin

Nice, I need to take lessons from you, but first I have to shoot something.

Re: Ithaca Super 10
Nice pictures. I need to get my super 10 out hunting but still to wet for me. Hopefully the rain will subside soon. My super fox got so wet the stock wood at the head swelled so I'm am letting it dry out for a week.

Sounds like you gents are getting hit like we are. This is the wettest year on long time record in NE PA. We had an average year's rainfall by the end of this August and rain hasn't let up since then. I have to admit I had my Benelli SBE 2 out duck hunting a few times.

Re: Ithaca Super 10
Frank, I bought one of those a few years before I became a Fox guy. The first time I hunted with it I thought "Why didn't I buy one of these years ago?" It doesn't have the look and feel of a vintage S x S, but it is a smooth shooting gun.Silvers wrote:Sounds like you gents are getting hit like we are. Re: Ithaca Super 10
Jeff, just my opinion but there are times when something like a Benelli SBE is the best friend a Fox man can have in the blind. The good Super-Fox or whatever goes into a waterproof case and out comes the SBE. And that's from a guy who has plenty of lower grade/lower condition Foxes I can use. I learned that when I had the head swell on a good Fox after a long deluge.
I've owned a SBE for over 20 years; first one was the original version which worked just fine but the recoil was a bit grim with heavy ducking loads. The current one is a Benelli Custom Shop SBE2 that has the semi flex stock which does reduce felt recoil. All the SBE's are ultra reliable at least ime. I took that first one to a dove/pigeon shoot in Argentina and shot something like 2500 shells without cleaning. At times the barrel got so hot I was afraid the forend would melt, and would open the breech to pour a cold one down the barrel. I kid you not. I never did a lick of cleaning and It was nice to get back to the hooch and just plain relax before dinner while my buds were cleaning their gas guns.
