Planing to shoot next year NE SXS
Planing to shoot next year NE SXS
I went down to check it out this year and cruise the vendor tent. It was awesome. This coming year I want to shoot. What are all the events to shoot? What would be the best set up for guns? Chokes, gauges etc for the different events. I know It’s a broad question but I’m starting to plan now for next year.

Guns: side by sides or vintage single barrel trap guns
Gauge: all ya got.
Ammo: lots of it depending on what you want to shoot. Shot size no larger than 7 1/2's.
Events: Sporting Clays courses, 5 Stand, Mad Jack, Flurry, Live Pigeon Circle (no live pigeons - clay targets with a piece of orange survey tape glued to it), Bo Whoop and the William Letterman.
Biggest event: all the socializing that goes on and all the nice doubles to look at.
Your only limitation is what you want to spend.
I talked with Craig Smith who operates Circle Fly Wads there in PA. (I bought some of his wads.) He brought 1100 loaded rounds with him to shoot. Craig and his good friend Mark were well equipped. They camped in the parking lot and had a 4 wheeler to get around.
Those in attendance may have heard Craig and Mark shoot the Flurry on Friday afternoon with their black powder loads.
Put it on your calendar for next year. You won't be disappointed.

It was nice to see you and I hope you will do some shooting next year. The most important part of the event is visiting with your comrades and eating Mrs. Cambria's cookies. As for shooting, bring your favorite gun to shoot, plus a couple of others. There are people that would disagree with me, but I'm not convinced that the "configuration" makes much difference. I shot the 5-Stand 4 times. I didn't do well, but I had a ball and I learned how difficult some those shots were. Then, on Saturday I watched the championship. If my memory is correct, Dick used an early A with 30" barrels, David D used a 2nd gen A with 30" barrels, and Smitty used his Heinz 57 Fox. Even though it's an absolutely stunning gun, it is somewhat reminiscent of the the Johnny Cash classic, "I got it one piece at a time". After those 3 shooters, we have Dave with his early "B" and Stan with his XE. I believe that both of those guns had 26" barrels that may have been shortened at one time. Here's my point: they shot the stations 7 & 8 with short barrels and open chokes. THAT'S OUTSTANDING SHOOTING! In addition, Daryl shot 9 out of 10 at Bo Whoop with a 28 ga. and the legendary Smitty did the same with a .410. It appears to me that it doesn't matter what gun you bring, just grin and shoot it.Woody wrote:I went down to check it out this year and cruise the vendor tent. It was awesome. The old saying is "dance with the one you brought" sums it up Phil. Bill outlined it perfect and Jeff had fun. What else can you ask for?
Smitty and iI were riding high with those 9's on the Bo-Whoop until Evil Mike changed the targets. He came back with a 12ga. in the shoot-off ( Mike S.) but I was stuck with the 28. Oh well he got me this year but there is always next year.
Barrel length is a personal thing so shoot what you shoot best. I shot a 20ga. 28" Lefever on the challenge and held my own against the long barreled 12ga. guys and the 9 on the whoop was shot with a 30" 28ga. It's all fun.

Owning a Fox is not a spectator sport.

9s are not quite good enough on the Bo Whoop or the Letterman course. Bring plenty of ten dollar bills. It is a very entertaining place to spend the weekend. Great job, guys.
