A vs. B which is more desirable

Post by terc »

I'm looking for an opinion from the community, as to given a choice, and all other factors being equal, what gun they would buy

A - a small bore graded Fox that was totally refinished, restocked , brought back to like new condition by our best craftsman.

or

B - a small bore Galazan Fox with similar specs

I would first ask a few questions? Are you buying this gun as a shooter? Is this a gun that you will use to break clays with friends on a regular basis? What is the barrel length of the refurbished gun? The longer, the more valuable. A redone gun is worth less than an original in most cases. CSMC makes superior quality modern guns with modern steel that are meant to shoot a bunch of modern shells through the barrel. Mr. Galazan has done a VERY faithful job reproducing these guns with modern tolerances and modern metals. I have dealt with them and every experience has been exceptional. The level of knowledge on this site humbles 99% of the collecting community and will serve you well.

Does that CSMC gun come with a lifetime warranty? Hopefully that's a long long time.

Terc, I'd take Option A with the caveat of "by our best craftsmen".

Researcher, never saw that one before. Maybe it was Ansley's life??

What he said. There are some amazing craftsman (stockers, engravers, metal work) out there who can do quality work as long as the original gun is sound with perfect barrels. If Galazan didn't only make a rebated frame then I'd like their high grade guns even more. They are more Burt Becker upgraded Foxes then Philly Foxes IMO.

I've had a baggo great original Ansley Foxes and I created a wonderful tribute gun using two craftsmen I consider to be the better gunsmiths. However, I have never owned a CSMC Fox, so the choice is easy. I would fill out the order sheet for a CSMC CE grade smallbore and mail it to Tony with a check for $5650.00.

Thanks for the input
I think I've found the "perfect" gun for my needs. I'll be going the restock route. It's new to me and should be interesting.
I'll share the results in October.
Thanks again, Dave
