Stock question...

Post by Fin2Feather »

I bought a Utica Sterlingworth 12ga. I'm happy with the gun, but there's one thing I don't care for: it has the later uncapped pistol grip. Aside from the fact that it's probably silly, any suggestions as to who might alter the stock and fit a grip cap? Is it possible to do it without refinishing the stock? Thanks...

The Utica gun that I have is much narrower at the bottom of the pistol grip than the capped stocks. I think you'll end up with a funky shaped cap if you cut it to fit the contour of your stock. If the stock has no other problems, I'm not so sure that you'd really want to do that. The one I have has been hunted pretty hard for the past 20 years and numerous falls to the ground and has yet to get dinged up on the bottom of the grip. Just my 2 cents. Fred

Thanks for the input Fred. It's a "looks" thing; I just don't care for the shape. But you may be right about it ending up looking worse. The stock's fine, so I probably wouldn't do it anyway.
