new to the forum with a nice AH Fox
A friend brought over a nice 12 Ga double he inherited and wants to know more about it.
-It has 26" barrels with a beavertail fore-end. The barrels are marked "AH Fox Gun Co Phila Pa" and "Krupp Fluid Steel made by". The bluing looks good.
-The serial number on the frame is 9522C
-The buttstock as a rubber recoil reducing pad. Obviously a modification, but the only one I can see.Checkered pistol grip and sidewalls.
- The receiver is pretty much fully engraved with a birddog on the bottom, a couple of birds with Ansley H Fox on the right and left. There is also a little engraving on the base of the barrels.
-Double triggers
-Overall, a very nice classic American double in great shape. Points great and I wish it were mine!
Please tell us what model and era we have? I can email some pictures if needed: GKITCH@BELLSOUTH.NET
Many thanks!!

Re: new to the forum with a nice AH Fox
Greg,
It would seem you have an early C grade Fox, a CE if it has auto ejectors, with serial number 9522. That would be a very early gun made around 1908+/-.
The beavertail fore end would not be factory original. It would have the standard splinter fore end back when it was made. 26 inch barrels possible but more likely it would have been 28 or 30 inch or possibly 32 inch. If there is no choke in either barrels, it was probably cut. And the beavertail added?
Fox factory order cards describing the gun when it was made are available for most Fox guns after about serial number 10000. A written request to John Callahan, Fox-Savage Historian with your info would confirm if that info is available. Here is the link for info on getting a letter: http://www.foxcollectors.com/ah_fox/con ... tters.html
Your gun would look something like the one below that has serial number 10653. It would be helpful if you could post pictures of your gun.
Hope this helps.

YES, THAT IS IT EXACTLY...except that the pistol grip has a cap. Any advice on how to post pics?

To post pictures, you have to down load your pix to a hosting site such as Photo Bucket and from there you can Copy and Paste them in a new thread or in a Reply thread. If you'd like, you can email your pictures to me and I'll post them for you. my email address: biljolliff@aol.comGKITCH wrote:YES, THAT IS IT EXACTLY...except that the pistol grip has a cap. The ejector is solid one-piece. The beavertail is serial numbered to the gun. Looking for a tape measure to get an accurate measure of the barrels...

Re: new to the forum with a nice AH Fox
Greg sent me some pictures of his C 12 #9522 that I have copied below.
As Osthaus/Rick has pointed out, you're probably looking at the SN marked on the iron. Or is the number marked on the wood? If you'd like, send me a picture of that portion of the fore end iron and wood that contacts the under side of the barrels.
He's looking to get some bore diameter measurements at the muzzle to see if the barrels have been shortened. From the picture of the muzzle below, it almost looks OK.

Yes, the number is in the iron and not the wood itself. The forestock is also a nicer quality wood than the buttstock.

Nice metal, but none of that wood is factory.
