Late Season Partridge
Yesterday my brother and I drove 70 miles north of Grand Rapids for a combination partridge hunt and wood cutting expedition. After 2 hours without flushing a bird, I decided to cut some fire wood. Around 2 o'clock I was pretty much pooped, so I decided to give the birds one last try. It was starting to sprinkle a little so I grabbed my "rainy day" Sterlingworth and headed into the thick stuff. It's funny how a few hours of lugging wood will slow down your cadence. Anyway, within about 15 minutes I was rewarded with one beautiful partridge. The rain really started coming down hard, so I headed back to my truck. Naturally, in my haste I flushed one more and missed. Anyway, I'm thankful to have one and maybe next year I'll get a bunch like you guys always seem to get. Season closes in a week. Jeff

We always called Ruffed Grouse Partridge also. Jim

Very very nice. I kind like hunting in the light rain. Dogs stay cool and the birds normally sit pretty tight. Not a bad combination. PS. Now the 2 plus hour drive home when you are wet can really suck. I remember one time going into a Hardee's bathroom and trying to wiggle out of my wet hunting pants and an 8 year old little feller walked in just as I was down to my undershorts. Well, he took one look and ran out of the bathroom. That made me laugh all the way home.

Nice bird. I grew up in GR and my grandparents lived in White Cloud. Lots of good bird hunts up that way.

Yep, White Cloud is nice. I was about 2 miles south and 5 miles west of Baldwin.
