choke question

Post by 3birddogs »

I acquired a Fox A grade 20 yesterday. it has 26" barrels and weighs 5 3/4 lb. The factory card shows the chokes marked as C andC, which I would assume is cyl/cyl. My little drop in Galazan guage shows them to be a tight IC in each barrel. Are Fox guns choked a little tighter, or am I misinterpreting the card? I will get some pictures up as soon as possible. will be a great little grouse gun.

My 2cents are Fox bores are tighter then regular 20 gauge bores. Hence their cylinder choke will show up at tighter then cylinder with one of the drop in choke measurement tools.

He's right Harold, you need to measure the bore diameter and compare it to the choke constriction. On the other hand just shoot it and don't worry about the chokes. :)

I think DarylC has got it right! Best advice I ever got ( from a good friend who is an excellent shot) as I was fondling a SxS choked Cyl & Full and contemplating buying it: "For gosh sakes Robert, just shut up, buy it and shoot it." He was 100% correct and I have followed that tenet ever since.

Spend ninety bucks on a choke micrometer and know what you have.
