Fox 16 ga CE

Post by MilRob »

Received my gun back home after complete restoration and I am very happy.  A little background I bought this CE from a lady in Florida selling off her great Uncles estate.  She knew nothing about guns and could not really describe anything.  No way to measure chokes etc.  But knowing they dont grow on trees  I took a gamble and bought it.

The gun ended up being pretty nice but a couple of very minor rust spots I wanted cleaned up.  Receiver at some point was stripped of all case colors except under the lever.  I assume by Flitz or some other material.  Definitely not handling as the engraving was still very crisp.

The gun is a wand with modern dimensions 1 1/2 x 2 3/8 x 14 1/8 to the original butt plate.  Weights 5 lb 14 oz with 26" tubes choked M/F.

Yes it is restored (yes I know some people hate restoration of classic american guns) but a wonderful gun like this I felt deserved to be returned to its beauty.  I know I love it and cant wait to take it afield this fall.

After...Not the best lighting today with the rain.  Had to snap a couple of iphone pics under the front porch.

From what I can see, the receiver and the wood turned out very nice. The case colors are subtle, and look light years better than the polished receiver, IMO. Very nice job, MilRob.

Thanks guys. I will try and take a couple of pictures in better light. The case colors are cyanide.

Yes they are. Very few folks doing that these days. Ron's gunshop is one. Another fellow in Montana does it that does the Browning Low walls. Nice nice job. Love the way it turned out.

Great gun - the engraving is not worn at all looks like it was never carried, the cyanide case colors are really nice. Congratulations on a quality restoration.

Wow, if I had that gun, I would be tempted to sell off all my Parkers and Foxes and become a one gun man.

Thanks for all of the kind words. I am really happy with the end result.

Here are a couple more pictures with better sunlight of the case colors.  They look pretty Foxy to me.  The wood is still a little proud after the refinish showing the shadow.

Big improvement. I like how the new case coloring is understated and not too heavy
