I have this neat little Fox XE 12 on the way

Post by AmarilloMike »

In transit as I write this.

I am hoping "Monogram AFH on gold shield" means AFH as in Ansley H. Fox :D

Unusual in that it has a skeleton butt plate.

I bought the gun. It was shipped yesterday. Here is a link to the for sale ad. Since it is no longer for sale maybe my posting the link doesn't violate the rules. If it is in violation please let me know and I will delete the link.

I don't know what the "Strong main springs" is about. I suppose the gentlemen that ordered it could have had some problems with thick skinned primers.

It was ordered with 26" barrels with cylinder and mod chokes and he wanted it to weigh in at six and one half pounds. I think it was meant to be a grouse gun or bobwhite gun.

I would not have purchased it had the barrel length been in question. But the factory card I posted confirmed it left the Fox factory with 26" barrels. The salesman said that the tubes did not touch at the muzzle and he stated that it was his opinion that the barrels had been cut.

Look forward to getting it in my hands. Shipped ground so it may be a few more days.

Best,

Mike

Some one really knew what they wanted in a bird gun

Mike, looks to be a real peach. Wonder what the 4 1/2" is to the right of H.P.? Gonna let Joe your gun bearer tote this little lady?

I'm guessing that is the circumference of the half pistol grip.

I'm sure your correct. I was reading and article on a early 20 gauge and the article said the gun had a 4" circumference in the grip. That is indeed very very slim.

He did know what he wanted. He was very specific on many details.

Jim I am looking forward to carrying while I chase the dogs when Bobwhite season opens in November.

Thanks.

Wowwwwwwwww, what a gorgeous/interesting Fox!! No offense to Ansley's small bores but the Brits had it right; nothing beats the dynamics of a six and a half to six and three quarter pound twelve!! And a skely butt to boot!! Sure sounds like a "dream" bird gun! Please get us some close-up pics after you two get better acquainted. Great vintage. Congrats on that one!
On the whole....I'd rather be in Philadelphia....

I just realized that 23521 and its mate 23520 were the March 2015 Cards of the Month!!

I read that thread back in March but did not make the connection. Thanks Dave. That was interesting. And your memory is truly amazing.

23520 and this gun are in Griffin and Howe's records too. FG Moore picked up (and charged) both of them along with a Francotte. All three guns are listed one after the other. I didn't have the presence of mind to ask Mr. Beech which company's records they were recorded in. For some reason I can't pull emails from my work computer up on my iphone this weekend.

The gun is in on approval. I think I will be able to post pictures of it next week.

Reblacked barrels- good job of it, 50% faded case, nice engraving, good balance, good triggers, original finish on the wood, checkering is in very good condition, nicely balanced gun.

Thank you Toolman.
