Fox/Sterlingworth 12 guage

Post by smally21 »

Good day gents..just registered and first post..I have recently got back into shooting after a long break from PPC and IPSC style shooting, this time around going the long gun route with a particular interest in Skeet and Sporting Clays.

Well I recently acquired two shotguns, one a 1970s era Model 12 Featherweight and the other, a Sterlingworth SXS. I confess I know nothing about either, and so here I am.

The serial # of the Fox is 69188, and all pieces match. It has 30" standard barrels and full pistol grip stock. Double triggers, bead sight...

Looking for some info regarding age, condition, special features, value..I doubt I would ever shoot this gun, it would be a nice display piece or perhaps it should go to a collector, although I don't know if it is in collectable condition?

Thanks in advance..

Welcome to the fold!! According to the published serial number chronology your Sterlingworth would be from 1914. I don't have much faith in that chronology. The only way to know anything for sure would be to get a letter on the gun from the Savage historian --

The beavertail forearm on your gun is definitely an aftermarket addition. The stock also is probably a replacement as it has a much larger pattern of checkering on the grip. Here is the Sterlingworth from the 1914 A.H. Fox Gun Co. catalogue --
