What did you add/subtract from your Fox Collection in 2013??

Post by fox-admin »

Every year about this time I like to ask this question. What did you add/subtract from your Fox Collection and what is on your Fox gun wish list?
What was your best Fox memory in 2013?

I will go first-----
Added a 12ga Sterlingworth Pin Gun 30" bbls and 12ga Sterlingworth 32" Trap---both in nice condition.
Sold a 30" HE Super Fox in high condition.
Bought and sold some of the other brands but lets not talk about that!
Wish List----Still looking for a 12ga XE and a early 12ga D both 30" waterfowl type guns-----I seems everything I am looking for never appears but some other very interesting Fox appears on the market.
Best Fox memories of 2013-----1.the Hausman SxS weekend and the Bo-Whoop--one of the best weekends of the year. 2. Shooting ducks with my C/HE---I finally got the courage to take it hunting.

Let's hear from you. Craig Larter

This is the year that I relized that I was not a collector but a hunter that enjoyed hunting with Philly AH Foxes. I parted ways this year with the following high condition guns:
1) 1911 12 gauge 30" AE
2) 1913 12 gauge 30" BE
3) 1928 12 gauge 32" HE.
I have 4 AH Foxes that I have for hunting, 3 duck guns (which is my passion just like you Craig) and 1 upland gun:
1) 1909 12 gauge 32" CE
2) 1910 12 gauge 32" C (straight grip)
3) 1923 12 gauge 32" HE (full pistol grip, 3")
4) 1914 16 gauge 26" BE

I recently found a short barreled open choked pin gun in excellent condition for short money that has me considering moving on my skeet and upland 12ga.

I like some others here are a hunter who enjoys classic doubles and I'd love to find an A grade 12ga with long tubes and banner engraving to bring down the ducks!!

Jim: Great group of waterfowl guns. The early C's are so nice. The 1923 HE must be one of the early heavyweights with .750 bores.
MilRob: BIG year for you!!!!---nice group of 16's. Small bore Foxes are the best!
Mike: MANY more Foxes in your future-----good luck in 14.

Retained the same group of early guns I've had for years during 2013.
However, for the years excitement, my defibrillator/pacemaker almost went off when I
found a Philadelphia Arms Co. catalog at a local show.

Picked up a 12 gauge Philly Sterlingworth with 26" pipes for a song !

A couple weeks ago I got a 20 gauge Philly Sterlingworth 26" pipes and it was also what I call a song !

I want a 16 gauge Philly Fox with 26" pipes !
My only Fox 16 is a Utica Fox A with 26" pipes .

I truely wish Fox had made a 10 gauge gun !

So with that being said I would truely love to add a Parker EH 10 gauge damascus to my accumulation !

8 gauge Parker would be da bomb also !

I picked up a really nice CE no safety gun with some interesting paper work. It was the only gun that I have purchased in a few years. I have a thirty two inch AE that is the only gun that seems to get any exercise.

To make sense of my 2013 you have to look back at 2012. I sold off 2 of my 3 Sterlingworth 16 gauge extractor guns to my dog owning bird hunting buddies that had been hunting with 12 gauge Brownings. Now, when we grouse hunt in the winter, we are all using Foxes. It adds a touch of class to any day afeild to all be using Ansley's finest. In addition, in early 2013 I sold an low serial number PAC gun and an early A with condition issues.

So as 2013 rolled around I was on a mission to replace them if the opportunity presented itself. Right around the time of the shoot as Hauseman's Hollow I located a nice 16 gauge Sterlingworth with ejectors and a C grade 12 gauge in very nice original condition.

I bought them both and then was able to get another 16 gauge Sterlingworth with ejectors here from Dave Sizemore. I'm using Dave's former 16 as a platform for a custom two barrel set that Dan Rossiter will be doing the metal and stock work for me when it makes its' way to the top of his queue. I also got an extra set of barrels with the forend metal in the white to complete the set.

Lastly, I picked up a Savage era AE for a song with a broken ejector spring follower that Dan is fixing for me and adding a pad to. I took a chance on this one as most of the internal parts were in a zip lock bag at the time of purchase. Then I added a Philly era 12 gauge Sterlingworth that spoke to me.

So now I have the following;

Savage era 16 gauge Sterlingworth with a Bird's Eye Maple stock
Savage era Sterlingworth ejector 16 gauge
Early Sterlingworth ejector 16 with a second set of barrels as a custom project in the works
Early Sterlingworth 12 gauge
Early A 12 gauge
Savage Era AE 12 gauge
Early B 12 gauge with English Stock
Early C 12 gauge
XE 12 gauge with English Stock
