OT--JFK--50 years ago on a more historic note....

Post by TOOL MAN »

I know it's trite but as I sit spellbound watching the actual CBS streaming news feed from that fateful day in 1963, I ask: Where were you when you first heard the news on JFK and what were your thoughts? I bet some from the Fox Nation were out hunting? I can only imagine the pall this must have cast on the Thanksgiving Day holiday, less than a week later. Let's hear your stories. I was only two and thus have no recollection of the event.
On the whole....I'd rather be in Philadelphia....

I was a high school junior and was in biology class when Nancy Aust entered, crying, saying that the president had been assassinated. A sad day indeed. A thing like that was pretty much unthought of in those days; unfortunately, today, it wouldn't come as so great a surprise.

Standing in line outside the elementary school in Sylvania, after recess, before returning to class. I was 12.

Remember having to stand in line ?

Getting ready for 2nd shift at the Goodyear Tire Plant in Los Angeles at Florence and Central--a lot has happened in 50 years. There were three companies making tires in the Los Angeles area all the plants are closed. So many changes and faces are gone. I got to shake JFK's hand and take his picture at Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach during a 1960 election year speech--very exciting for a 19 year old, still two years before I could vote.

6th grade math class at Winfield Twp. school (since closed). Thoroughly confused as to why such a thing could happen.

Returned to the fifth grade class room where I was doing my practice teaching. My supervising teacher was devastated and the kids rushed up to tell me.
