Barrel not locking properly.
Barrel not locking properly.
I recently had to take the stock off my shotgun because the pin holding the safety assembly disappeared. Upon replacing the pin and reassembling the gun the barrels are not locking correctly. The safety, triggers and barrel leaver all jam once the gun is cocked. Even without the sears, triggers and safety the barrels still do not lock in correctly, but nothing that I removed or adjusted relate to the locking mechanism as far as I can tell.
Anyone have any ideas on what might cause this?

Re: Barrel not locking properly.
actually yes there is, not sure if its your isssue -- but did you retain and reinstall the little coil spring that sits under the floorplate screw?
that often falls out if you don't watch for it and the part it holds in place is the "plunger" the barrel extention depresses as you close the gun.

X2 on the little bitty spring. Get a magnet and a flashlight and start looking. We've all been there.
Recoil is most noticed when I miss

I do have the spring and the plug. the Barrel will not lock beyond the picutre with or with out the spring. In pics, you can see that the locking lever is stopping a few degrees short of centered. That happenes with or without any of the other equipment installed. For those pictures I held the lever off to the side and closed the barrel and the lever cannot close all the way.
Thanks for the response, we'll get through this together!

Re: Barrel not locking properly.
With the top lever trip and spring installed ,does the top lever remain to right when you open the gun? if not top lever trip may not be installed correctly in rotary bolt. Bobby

Re: Barrel not locking properly.
hmm, that is a puzzler, assuming the above piece is in the proper orientation,
the lever not centerring isnt normally an issue, its being a little to the right is generlly preffered.

Re: Barrel not locking properly.
Is the barrel set closing all the way (the barrel extension should be flush with the top of the receiver). If it's not closing completely make sure there is nothing under the extractor keeping it from seating completely. If that is not the problem something must be binding in the lockup.
Re: Barrel not locking properly.
Have you tried reinstalling the barrels with the forend attached and the hammers cocked?

Re: Barrel not locking properly.
I figured it out, the triggers locking up were unrelated to the barrels at all, I put everthing back together without the stock and the triggers and saftey functioned perfectly. I had to releve the stock a little to allow the saftey to move and everything is up and running. Thanks for all the suggestions everyone but, it was good old operator error (as usual).
