Newbie has questions!!

Post by semperdog »

An Anseley H Fox "A" grade 12 ga manufactured in 1920 was found @ a relatives home. I received the manufacturer's card, and have questions. (I have yet to see the shotgun, and do not know the condition, so I will not be able to post pics for some time.)

-The barrels were ordered 28", Clyinder and Full. Why would someone order the chokes this way?-The stock is 14", and the heel is 3 1/2--opinions??

Thanks,

Roy

For upland, the open choke would be used for the flushing shot then if needed the tighter choke for the farther shot. For ducks or even dove, if the target is coming towards you you shoot the tigher choke first, then if needed the more open choke as the target gets closer. In the case of an overhead shot from behind, the open choke first then the tighter choke as the target or targets get further away.

OK, I understand the principle, but going from no choke to full seems odd. I could understand Imp. to Mod., or Mod to full, but cyl. bore to full?

I very much like cylinder and full combination with a double trigger gun.3 1/2 inch drop at heel is an inch too much drop for me but some like it. Bobby

Cylinder and full was a popular choke combination in the first part of the twentieth century.
