Seeking General info on my shotgun

Post by wchown »

My Father and I have a shotgn that we would like to learn more about. Top of right barrel reads "sterlingworth fluid compressed steel". Top left barrel " made by a.h. Fox gun co Philadelphia, PA. U.S.A.". Right and left side of gun says "stfalingworth". Serial on trigger guard is 89172. It has a few markings that look like rudamentary arrows or turkey tracks "->". Basic checkering in grip of stock and foregrip. Not much detail on the metal. We would appreciate any insight into shell size best used in this gun, history, general value, ect... Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

Your gun is a 12-gauge Sterlingworth, the entry-level Ansley H. Fox shotgun. You can order a research letter of the gun from the Savage historian --

According to the published serial number chronology, your gun is from about 1920, but only a factory letter will tell you for sure. Most all 12-gauge Sterlingworths left the factory in Philadelphia with 2 5/8 inch chambers, intended for 2 3/4 inch shells.

Assuming average condition, a range of 600 to 800 depending on actual condition.
Recoil is most noticed when I miss
