I use polywad. 15 bucks a box. 2.75 and 2.5 inch by the box for about $15 + shipping. They also sell 2", but you have to buy 4 boxes. I have been looking for a place to get 2" spreaders, but only want one box. Does anyone know of where I can get them?

I bought a few boxes of the Polywad Spred-R loads this fall - 16 ga 2-1/2", 7-1/2 shot. Dumped both barrels at a woodcock last Saturday and it got away clean - just too far out I think, maybe 40 yards, which is way too far for spreader loads through IC / Light mod chokes. Would have been better to switch those spreaders out when the cover opened up, but usually the birds go up close in and most of my shots at woodies (and grouse) seem to be under 25 yards. And no, I haven't had time to pattern them yet, but I was hoping for the best!

Patterning is on my to-do list!

Does Mr. Campbell have a recipe for his spreader loads he'd share?

I've just sent one load with Polywad spreaders in it for testing and will share the results if anyone is interested. Believe it was a 2.5 inch 12 ga. load, however, not a 16. Having some barrels opened up instead of loading too many spreader loads, as they were way way too tight at IM and extra Full--not my kind of gunning, I.E. tight chokes, with a light Sterlingworth (just got a 16 on a 20 ga. frame; boy is the handgrip small compared to my LC 20!).

40 yards is a long shot and patterns will be pretty sparce even without the spreader insert at that distance. But, have you considered that you just may have missed it. I often tell my Setter after muffing an easy shot that he must have distracted me while I was loading that shell and I forgot to put the shot in it.

I hit a lot of leaves & tree branches. The pattern was about 8 feet wide. No lucky pellet for me. I didn't have a shot on the re-flush and it twittered off.

I dumped a pheasant on Tuesday with Winchester #6 high brass loads through a skeet choke at 40 yards. The pattern is pretty wide at that point but this lot of Winny #6's I bought last year are shooting super tight - about a 20" spread at 25 yards with Cyl choke. The last lot I had they shot more like 35" at 25 with Cyl/Skeet chokes. That is a huge lot-to-lot variance and I may give up on buying/shooting Winchesters when this case is done.

Of course, I have about 6 cases of Remington game loads in #6 & #7-1/2 stashed away and a MEC 600 Jr. so I might not buy any more for a while. But I just can't pass up a good deal on factory loads when I see them, now can I...
