Got back from a trip in late October to coastal Maine and just dug out the pictures. Was carrying my Fox SW 20 gauge Ejector with Beavertail. Shot the gun really really well. Bird numbers were pretty consistent with last year. Loads of Woodcock and a fair number of Partridge as they call them up there. Best day was the first one, where we flushed 10 Grouse and 39 Woodcock. Managed to scratch down my three bird limit of Woodcock every day, but missed a few Grouse shots I should have made, but that's the norm for me. This particular gun is a tad heavy with the beavertail, but even with the full/mod chokes it shot quite well. FWIW, I was using RST Spredder loads (size 8 ) and also tried their new size 10 shot loads. They performed very well for me and I even scratched down a Grouse with the size 10's. Big thanks to RST for making a superior product which is just about the only thing I will shoot out of my Foxes these days. Anyway, a couple of pics:
PS. It rained about every day we were there. Should have been more photo's, but the conditions were pretty lousy. Good news is the dogs stayed cool. That's my 18 month old Golden Gracie. That's also a pretty brown or red phase bird for that area of Maine. We normally shoot only gray phase birds.
