Fox Sterlingworth Safety Problem

Post by SAS »

I have a Fox Sterlingworth 16 ga. that has a safety malfunction. Upon firing the first barrel, the safety returns to the "safe" position automatically. Requiring me to physically move the safety to fire position before I can fire the second barrel. I think it may be recoil related because it does not do this when dry firing. Has anyone else encountered this condition, and if so, what is the remedy? We already tried shortening the extractor rod, but the problem persists. Thank you for any response.

Is the safety button easy to slide? If so you may need to bend the flat spring to cause more tension and resistance.

Good question. The safety button does not slide easily. In fact, it is somewhat firm in both the "fire" and "safe" positions. I have shot many sterlingworths, and this safety is "normal" in terms firmness in either position. I would like to hear if anyone else has experienced this phenomenon. Please let me know. Thank you.

I don't have a gun in front of me, but this like it would be quite odd... assuming I am picturing the inside properly... does your trigger get pushed back forward after the shell goes off? It seems the safety would have to slide past the upper trigger arm (I am sure that is a terrible name but am talking about the squared off tab that is what the safety normally engages).

Have you tried removing the auto safety rod? Or is that what you meant by the "extractor rod" ???

If the safety spring is tight, I would think it more likely to do with the auto safety rod but I am no expert...

you're not shooting 3.5" turkey shells are ya ???? :D :D :D :D
Cheers!
