Touch up blueing?

Post by terc »

Things were a little slow this evening wich led me to the gun safe.I've had an old Fox for a while with a nasty little scrape on the left barrel. I sanded it smooth, then tried to apply some blueing on the spot. IT won't take the color. Just when I think it is blended in and all is finally ok I rub on the oil and off comes the blue.
The barrels are chromox. What type of touch blueing works on these barrels?
Thanks Dave

This is some mighty good stuff but you may need to do a complete rust blue
on these barrels.

Blueing touch up can be a pain and it never really matches in the end. At least that is my experience with cold blue. One thing is certain only rust blueing will match rust blueing.

Thanks for the Oxpho-blue recomendations. It was the only cold blue out of three that did not rub off. The touch up isn't perfect but it's not bad.
Thanks again, Dave
