Staple repair of stock

Hi Everyone,
I've been lurking here for a long time and I Finally have a question I feel is worthy of asking.
I bought a 1913 sterlingworth last year for the sole purpose of hunting ducks. I am shooting Nice shot
in low psi handloads and shooting it quite well. It is a joy to shoot.
The stock is in good shape and I was thinking of doing the staple repair to try and avoid a stock
crack from forming. Is this a good idea or not?

Is there some type of stock damage at the present time? OR, are you trying to avoid a crack in the future?

Welcome John, a Fox factory made stock will usually crack in the upper part of the left stock cheek where there's a clearance cut-out for the yoke screw, thus the wood is pretty thin there. I doubt you could install a staple to bridge over the cut-out, unless the yoke screw was shortened, auto safety function disabled permanenly, and the cut-out filled in. The stock head on the right side is much thicker and they rarely split. Silvers

Thanks for the input. I have not yet joined and have never taken the stock off of a Fox so
didn't know what I was getting into. Years ago I did a staple job on a Parker that I no longer shoot.
That job went well and I was hoping I could do a little preventive work to avoid future problems.
This Fox is a great shooter and appears to have never been apart so not sure I want to go there. After I join
I'll check out the repair on the members side.
