generic SxS barrel shortening question?

Post by HardCash »

I don't think I would ever consider doing this to one of my Fox Shotguns, but I'm considering shortening the barrels from 28" to 23" on an inexpensive Russia SxS for my Cowboy Action Shooting.
Would this necessarily change the Point of Impact ?

I'm not an expert on such things at all, but here's my thoughts about your situation.

For what your going to be doing with the gun. Cutting the barrels shouldn't effect the point of impact very much. Shortening the barrels 5" would probably make a POI change if you had fairly tight chokes and would be shooting at yardages of 40 yards or beyond. In your case the barrels will now be cylinder choked and your average yardage would probably be less than 40 yards. I say go ahead and do it to a cheap knock off gun and then experiment with different loads until you get the effective load that works in the gun for your purposes.

Please what ever you do. Don't take the hacksaw to a FOX!
