closer look at my 1st Fox !!

Post by HardCash »

After I've looked closer at my Sterlingworth, even thought it locks-up tight, I can see daylight between the breech and the receiver !!
Is it OK to shoot or did I buy a problem ?
If this is a problem; can it be fixed and who can do the work ????

Fox Barrel Fit -- There is supposed to be a gap between the barrel flats and the watertable on the Ansley H. Fox action. From page 7 of the pocket "Fox Gets the Game" catalogue -- "Clean off the watertable of a Fox gun and also the bottom of the barrels at this point and put the gun together and hold it to the light. If you catch it just right you will see a thin space between the barrels and the frame; look at the breech end carefully and you will find that the open end of the barrels fit accurately and tightly against the frame. This space under the barrels is purposely provided, so that should wear or strain occur the Fox barrels may go down a little further and still fit tightly at the open breech end."

The gap was at the top of the barrels and mainly on the left barrel. However I took it apart, grease wear areas and now it locks up tighter than the gates of hell.
