I decided to drag out the 12GA XE for today's Idaho pheasant opener and head to some state land with a 2 birds limit. Our season opens a 12 noon, At 1226 I was back at the truck watering the pointers. It was almost a shame to have it over so fast but luckily, there were other birds and Fox guns to fill the rest of the day.
Hope you all have a great hunting season, for they are too short and each only a memory in what seems the blink of a eye.

I had a similar experience in North Dakota last week with my Rain-Gun Sterlingworth 20ga. Three roosters in less than ten minutes. It sure makes for a long day when your done so fast.
Great pic Jess! Reminds me of my opening day in Colorado in 1970. Went out with the opening at noon, all alone with no dog, and got these two in the first brushy fencerow I walked, got back to my El Camino and took this picture. Then walked a fencerow across the road and collected my third bird and was on the road back to Denver by 1:30 pm.
I'd only had my 1914-vintage A-Grade 12-gauge four years at this point.
A very nice picture and a great hunt story. I particularly like pics taken outdoors in natural light. Speaking of extra fast game getting, here's a digital copy of one taken in the early 70's on the western shore of James Bay near Fort Albany - northern Ontario. Not as good as the first one here. We were unloading the canoe, getting ready to set up, and a nice honker came by to investigate. I'd like to say I used a Fox but it was my Model 97 pump gun. Shot was a taken with a 4-shot Peters roll crip shell from an old box that sat in my parent's dresser since I was a kid. I still have that '97 and three of those shells. My bud Rocky and I still hunt together out at the cabin. God what memories! Silvers

Nice! You make me anxious to get out pheasant hunting.
I am going to North West Kansas the first week in November and you have inspired me to take my XE16. Going to take four turd-hounds and my shooting student Joe Wood too.

Thanks,

Mike unless you are going to Kansas for the youth hunt you had better hold off a couple weeks as the Pheasant and Quail season doesn't start until the 14th this year and the Prairie Chicken season doesn't open until the 21st this year.

Great choice of guns though
Right you are, first week in December. First week in November is the first week of quail season in Texas.
Grabbed 3 doves with my Fox the other day in a hurry.... was actually out scouting and setting up a new deer stand... came back to the edge of a recently cut corn field and could not believe the number of Doves around and had my CE in the truck. popped three in about 45 second... then they scattered; was surprised to see any stick around after the first shot... guess they don't get hunted much... hey its an appetizer for dinner tonight!! Thinking about going back this weekend!!
