The slippery slope.....

Post by Silvers »

Fair warning to members - you start here as a Fox shooter and hunter, then you slide into collecting. New acquisition from a private collector arrived today. Complete with box, shells and folding practice target.

Two good friends I spent time with in April warned me about this! Silvers

Wow!! I've got three in different configurations, but none in that kind of condition with all the original bits. In their December 1988, auction, Circus Promotions Corp. had one with the box, but their box was a bit more ragged in the lower left corner. The estimate was $125 to $150. I bid $165 and it went for $225.

Really Nice, Frank you find all the good stuff!

Every one of the toy guns I've seen have been beat-up pretty bad and the sellers have been asking crazy prices for them.

All I have to say is I miss my share of good stuff too. Sometimes we just get lucky. I could chide some of the other Fox personalites here about other deals I learned about later but I'll keep my mouth shut. TOOL you're right. It's been over since that trip. And you were one of the guys who warned me what's going to happen on the collecting scene.

Note to all. I've already gotten emails from gents asking if the play gun set is for sale. Answer: no. My intent in posting it was to show what some lucky boys and girls saw under the Christmas tree long ago. The private collector is a very good friend and I'm honored he let me have it. Mike, how do you think she'll do at the Bo-Whoop shoot next year?

OK, so now I have a play gun and a Fox Campfire catalog I picked up at a gun show a month ago. Frank

I guess this means we shooters should keep an eye out for the nice custom re-do's that will be coming up for sale...
Beware the man with one gun...he likely will bore you to death in others ways, too.

Frank,That is one great find! I bought(and have since sold) a Fox toy gun years ago. It was just the gun with no box or shells. They are quite a find.Congratulations...

Frank, aka Silvers - Great acquisition. Not many around like that. I have never seen in the flesh the target that comes with the Toy Gun. They must not have survived as well as the cartridges, bag of balls and the box. Yours is only the 3rd target I've heard of. Is there a bell in the bullseye?

If you need some "ammo" for your gun, they are 1/2" diameter hardwood balls that are available at a lot of craft stores. That's what my two boys used in my Toy Guns and they work fine and are replaceable when they lose them. And they did. 4 balls for a buck.

Great find Frank these are almost impossible to find in condition like yours. I figure most were played with and show lots of wear. The boxes are rarely encountered and yours is in better condition than mine.
I was lucky enough to find a nice example in the box on Ebay a few years back but I paid to get it. I found a spare target and instructions at a toy show to go along with it. My father had one of these as a kid but it ended up with my uncle. I managed to pry it from him a few years ago. My dad also picked up a Model 32 Western Scout 7-shot repeater which is the only one I have ever seen. They also made a model 31 Pump style that shows up once in a while at toy shows.
Frank keep and eye on Ebay, bags of A H Fox wooden balls as well as lost shells show up once in a while there. These Toy Fox guns are sought after by Toy gun collectors. Paul
Here are a few of mine.

Paul and Frank, nice stuff. And Paul, your target has the bullseye bell and instructions. Never heard of instructions before. Rare stuff.
